Desk Makeover with Country Chic Paint

This cute little desk was a steal for only $5. As soon as I spotted it I knew it would be the perfect desk makeover DIY! I knew my girls would love it in their room as it is the perfect size for my little ones.
Over the past few yearsI have loved furniture painting, so I was excited to start painting this desk. I had some Country Chic Paint in my furniture paint stash and knew that the color Simplicity would look amazing on this piece!

How To Makeover An Old Desk With Paint
First I cleaned off the desk with a towel & water. The desk had some nail polish spills and a couple dents, but that was the extent of the damage. I filled in some of the larger dents with plastic wood, and then sanded down the surface with a sanding block to make it smooth.
After the surface was smooth I wiped it clean and started to paint! I decided to use the color Simplicity (a bright white) for this desk. I did 2 coats letting each coat dry fully before adding the next. After each coat I also sanded it down very lightly with a fine grit sanding block to make the surface smooth to the touch.
Then I added a bronze drawer knob I found at Hobby Lobby to add some dimension and contrast to the drawer. I love how the knob pops against the white color of the desk!

For the decor I added a stack of thrifted books (just took the book jackets off!), a marble decorative object (similar one here), this faux ZZ plant, and a thrifted frame with a thrifted black & white print I found at a garage sale!
You might be wondering, how do you protect painted furniture? Do you need a topcoat for furniture paint? For this chalk style paint the answer is yes, adding a topcoat will protect the surface and prevent unwanted scratches. I use this clear coat to protect my pieces that I paint with Country Chic Paint. This topcoat is great at protecting the paint and is safe to use indoors!
What do you think of this DIY desk makeover? The power of paint is amazing – I’m always so impressed at how it can totally change a piece! Have you tried furniture painting yet? Using chalk paint is an easy way to get started, and Country Chic Paint has so many beautiful colors to choose from!
