The One Room Challenge is an 8 week long challenge that motivates you to complete one room! This fall I chose to work on our master bedroom. We hadn’t added any updates since moving in 18 months ago, so it was time to give it a makeover!

New Accent Lighting

After we added our new board and batten grid wall I had plans to add some wall sconces on each side of our bed. The dark grey wall color added the perfect backdrop for some brass sconces.

When I saw these Sylvia 2 light wall sconces in black and brass, I knew they would pop against the accent wall! I love that they include 2 adjustable lights and have a plug-in option with a cord.

The fact that I didn’t have to hire an electrician to install these was a huge win! I was able to easily install them myself, and have them working within an hour! These wall sconces make a huge impact in the room, as well as provide some much needed light!

Tools Needed:

How To Install A Wall Sconce

First you’ll determine where you want your wall sconce to go on the wall. I placed a level on the vertical bar and then lightly marked with a pencil around the top and bottom mounting plates.

I installed the top plate first by drilling 2 holes where the wall anchors would need to go. To determine the placement so that this section would be level, I held up the plate to the wall and set the level on top of the screws that would thread through the holes in the top mounting cover. Then I marked where to drill my holes using a pencil.

After drilling the holes with my drill I hammered in the supplied wall anchors. Then I placed the wall plate over the holes, and screwed in the screws mounting the plate to the wall.

Next I held up the fixture so the screws were threaded through the top mounting cover, and made sure my fixture was level and lined up with my initial pencil marks.

Then I mounted the bottom plate using the same process, making sure it was centered in the circle I made with my pencil.

Lastly I held up the fixture over the plates and screwed on the top to secure the top section, then used my drill to screw in the bottom screws to the bottom plate. Then I added light bulbs and plugged in the fixture!

Beautiful Bedside Lighting

Now that the wall sconces are installed next to our bed, we have the perfect accent lighting for reading at night! I love how the brass and black pops against the dark grey grid wall. It gives some beautiful dimension and adds some beautiful style to the wall!

Using wall sconces are so useful because they create more room on the nightstands! Our bedside tables aren’t very big, and having lamps on them took up so much of the usable tabletop space. With wall sconces you gain back some of that table space!
