Today I’m sharing how I easily added some beautiful new floating shelves in my girls’ bathroom! The bathroom had a large cabinet above the toilet that was a bit too bulky, so I added some floating shelves from Ultra Shelf to open up the space. I’m loving how they turned out!

Thank you to Ultra Shelf for providing shelves for my girl’s bathroom!
I’ve been updating our home room by room over the last year, and was excited to add a beautiful touch to the girls’ bathroom. It has some builder grade oak cabinets on the vanity, square white tiles on the countertop, large builder grade mirror, and circus style lighting above the vanity.
Above the toilet was a large cabinet that looked just a bit too big and bulky for the space. I wanted to add some beautiful storage that was smaller, yet still made a visual impact.

Floating Shelves from Ultra Shelf
I found Ultra Shelf, where you can order custom made floating shelves. You can pick the size, wood type, and color finish! They have so many options to pick from which made me so happy! I love that you can find exactly what you are looking for and have it customized to your space.
After narrowing down my choices, I decided on shelves in walnut in a natural finish. My shelves are 24 inches wide, 2 inches thick, and 8 inches deep to fit the space above the toilet. They also have custom metal brackets that come with screws for installation.
First I measured out 24 inches of painter’s tape to create a template of how wide my shelves were. I placed the tape on the wall to get an idea of the spacing I wanted in between the shelves.

Then I found the center point (for me it was 12 inches) and marked that above the tape. I used a metal ruler and a level to mark the center point for the other shelf so that they would be even.
Next I used my stud finder (this is the BEST stud finder we have used, it is magnetic and finds the nails inside the stud!) to mark the studs on the wall. I did this for both shelves.
Then I used my level and placed the metal bracket on the wall, making sure to line up the holes as close to my stud marks as possible. Using the supplied screws, I screwed them into the wall using my drill and using firm pressure to get them into the studs.

Before securing the screw on the opposite side of the bracket I made sure it was level again, and secured the other side as well. With 4 screws secured into the bracket it felt SO sturdy and secure!
The last step was to slide the shelves onto the bracket. The shelves were snug going onto the bracket, creating a super secure fit.

Custom Floating Shelves
Not only were these custom shelves easy to install (with all the supplies provided!) but they feel like the most sturdy shelves I’ve ever installed! This helps me feel at peace knowing they are secure.

What do you think of my new floating shelves from Ultra Shelf? I love the color of the walnut wood in the natural finish. They add dimension to the space and have such a beautiful color! They are the perfect start to this bathroom makeover!
