This week I’ve been starting to paint the walls above and around our upper cabinets, and preparing to paint cabinets! Even getting a coat of primer on the walls has totally opened up the space and made it look bigger! I also picked out some new kitchen items!

Kitchen Makeover – One Room Challenge
Hello, friends! I’m back for the 3rd week of the One Room Challenge, where featured designers and guest participants are all transforming a room in their home. Being a guest participant is so fun and I’ve loved participating in years past with my daughter’s bedroom makeover and my guest bathroom transformation.
The first week I shared my plans for my kitchen makeover, along with my mood board with elements I’ll be using in the design. The design plan includes painting our kitchen cabinets white, painting the island green, new hardware, adding a new backsplash treatment, and new stools for the island.
The second week I shared how I updated the look of our pantry door by painting the door and trim black! I used the color Iron Ore by Sherwin Williams and am LOVING how it turned out!
Week 3 Kitchen Updates
This last week I removed the old hardware from the cabinets, with the help of my 2 year old assistant π She helped me remove the handles and screws from the doors and drawers with much enthusiasm!

Then I painted a coat of primer on the brown walls above the kitchen cabinets, including the odd soffet above one side of the kitchen. I am planning to paint both the walls above the cabinets, and the cabinets themselves the same color of white so they blend together and create an illusion of ceiling height cabinets.
Here is a before and after:

We had to remove the cabinet above the refrigerator when we first moved in (because our fridge was too tall) and we were left with an awkward opening above it. I found some belly baskets like these that I’ll add above the fridge to keep our first aid items and medicine, for safe keeping. These baskets will add some height, and texture to the room.
New Kitchen Items
This weekend the handle on our kitchen faucet broke off unexpectedly – so that means a new kitchen faucet for this makeover! I wasn’t planning to replace it initially, so this was just a happy accident. So I just ordered this matte black kitchen faucet from Amazon, and I’m so excited to see it in our kitchen!

I also just received the runner rug that I’ll be using in the space, and I’m LOVING it so much! It is amazingly soft and has some beautiful colors that will go perfectly with the island once it is pained!
That’s about it for the updates on the One Room Challenge this week. Hopefully I will have made some major headway on painting the cabinets by next week, definitely a big task for sure!
