We moved into our new home a few months ago, and I am so excited to make it our own! I just completed a $100 Room Challenge with my laundry room makeover, and am excited to get started on my next big project!
One Room Challenge – Kitchen Makeover
Twice a year the One Room Challenge happens with both featured designers and guest participants. I’m excited to be joining up as a guest participant and giving my kitchen a makeover!
Let’s jump right into it with some before photos! These were taken before we moved in as we were looking at the house. There isn’t anything wrong with the kitchen as-is, but I want to add my personal style and touch to our new home!

I am so excited to share my amazing sponsors for the One Room Challenge. These are companies that I love and definitely trust. I know you’ll love shopping with them!

Painting Oak Cabinets
I’ll be doing plenty of DIY projects for this kitchen makeover including painting all of our oak cabinets. By painting oak cabinets myself I’ll be able to completely change the look of the kitchen cabinets on a budget! Painting cabinets yourself will save you SO much money vs. hiring professional painters. I know that painting them myself will take time, but it will be worth it in the end!
My color choices for the cabinets are Pure White from Sherwin Williams on the upper and lower cabinets that wrap around on the walls. For the island I picked the color Pewter Green from Sherwin Williams as an accent color that will provide some contrast against the white cabinets. I’m loving the 2 colors together with some new black modern hardware from Liberty Hardware!
I’m excited to use Zibra brushes to tackle all the painting I’ll be doing – and its A LOT π They have some amazing brushes that are made to fit right into hard to reach areas and angles!
DIY Budget Friendly Backsplash
My plan for the backsplash will be a temporary fix until we can fully remove the backsplash in the future. We’d like to change it out completely with new tile, but that won’t happen for a few years.
By using a method like this one from Blesser House we can change the look of the backsplash on a budget and totally change the look of it. Lauren primed her backsplash tile, then glued on some white pressed tin to update her backsplash!
Painting Interior Doors
Another project will be painting the pantry door to the color Iron Ore by Sherwin Williams. I really wanted to add an accent color to the door to make it pop and give it some personality. Iron Ore is a beautiful dark slate grey that will pair nicely with the white and muted green!
I’m excited to show you step-by-step how to paint an interior door and the type of paint that is best for this type of project! Painting this interior door will make a huge impact in the look and feel of the room.
Kitchen Makeover Vision Board
Here is my vision board for my kitchen, including some inspiration photos for the look and feel that I’m going for in my kitchen. One of my favorite items I’ll be including are Turkish hand towels from Olive & Linen – they are amazing quality and SO soft! I’m so excited to get started on this budget friendly kitchen makeover!
