This $100 Room Challenge hosted by Erin at Lemons, Lavender and Laundry has been such a fun way to transform a room on a budget! Erin has been hosting this challenge for 5 years and it’s been such a fun way to join up with some fellow bloggers to make over a room.
WEEK 1 | WEEK 2 | WEEK 3 | WEEK 4 | WEEK 5
Let’s start with the before! My small laundry room makeover started with a cream colored room. It looked like a blank slate with room to make it my own! The room started with a fluorescent light, tile floor that needed a little cleaning, and orange oak cabinets. I wanted to give it some color and personality!

Budget Friendly Laundry Room Makeover Reveal
My first project was cleaning the tile floors, and I did that by scrubbing the grout with a magic eraser to get it back to it’s original color. Then I tackled the cabinets by painting them in the color Coney Island by Behr. I had some of this extra paint from another project, so it cost me $0!

Next I created a handpainted accent wall to make it look like wallpaper! Again I used extra paint from my paint stash to create a bright white background with grey X’s and plus signs. My inspiration was this beautiful wallpaper by Magnolia Home and I think I created a great budget friendly alternative by painting it myself!

Then Nic helped me with creating a black board and batten wall with wood pegs! Again I used some extra paint I had on hand and painted it in the color Iron Ore by Sherwin Williams. We had some scrap wood from previous projects, so it only cost around $17 for the board and batten wall. I painted the top of the wall in the color Silver Drop by Behr, thankfully I had enough leftover from our living room to use here.

Easy DIY Dollar Tree Artwork
This week I created some art using a $1 gold frame from Dollar Tree, and placed some extra faux leaves from a faux stem from Michaels. I just placed the leaves in a pattern face down on the glass, and then placed a white piece of cardstock over them, and then placed the back of the frame back on. Such a budget friendly DIY project!
For the framed black and white print, I found a free image from this website. Then I printed it out at home on cardstock and placed it in a frame I already had stashed away. The frame started out with a distressed finish, so I simply painted some white chalk paint over it to give it a clean fresh look.
I also created a DIY wood shelf underneath the painted oak cabinets! For this shelf I purchased 2 of these wood corbels from Home Depot for only $1.62 each, and a long common board for around $5. I cut the wood to the right length and sanded and stained the board and the corbels. Then I installed drywall anchors where the corbels needed to hang, added screws, hung the corbels, and then placed the wood shelf on top.
Shop Your Home For Decor
The decor on the shelf, wall art, drying rack, and mirror were items I already had at home in different locations. Since we just moved, I have a lot of art and frames that haven’t found homes yet, so it was easy to just shop my home for decor!
The biggest money saver in this makeover was definitely having extra paint on hand! I was able to transform the cabinets, create an accent wall, and paint the board and batten wall for free! When you’re looking to transform a space on a budget, make sure to check what supplies you already have on hand first to save money. And it’s always a good idea to stash extra supplies away for the future!
