My grandmother had quite a collection of vintage handkerchiefs. I was able to keep a couple of them after she passed, and have kept them in my jewelry box ever since. They are such a sweet sentimental reminder of her. I thought they would look beautiful framed and displayed where everyone could admire them!

I already had some picture frames on hand, so I was able to create this art for free! Sometimes it really pays off to have an extensive craft/decor stash 😉

How To Make Sentimental Handkerchief Framed Art
The first thing I did was dig through my picture frame stash to find one that was the right size. I had a white matted frame with an 8×10 opening that would look perfect with the pattern of the handkerchief that I picked out.
You will then need to make an insert that will sit in the opening of the frame. Some frames already have cardboard inserts that you could use, or cut to size. If you need to make one you can take some thin cardboard or cardstock paper and cut it to the size of your opening. The size of the opening on my mat is 8×10, so I used an 8.5×11 piece of cardstock.
Next you will place your handkerchief down and place your cardboard/paper insert on top of it. To help the handkerchief stay in place and not shift around, you can tape down the edges. You will fold the corners and edges around to the back of the cardboard/paper and use some tape to secure them down.
Now you can place the handkerchief into your frame and secure the backing. I taped down the corners of the handkerchief to the mat so that it will stay in place.
I just love being able to display this sweet vintage artwork in our home, where we will all be able to see it and appreciate it. If you have multiple handkerchiefs you could create a gallery wall. It would be extra special to display them in a kid’s room or nursery!
I hope you enjoyed this super easy sentimental handkerchief framed art tutorial!
