Pink Dresser Makeover

Pink Dresser Makeover - The perfect addition for a baby girl's nursery!

Hello friends! Today I’m excited to share my latest DIY furniture makeover. My little girl is due to make her arrival in just a couple weeks, and I finished her pink dresser makeover just in time!

I found this dresser at a garage sale a few years ago for only $2! The only catch was that it was a little scuffed up and missing the bottom two drawers. We had to get creative with how to make it fully functional and give it a new life!

Thanks to my Pinterest addiction, I found an idea to add boards to the bottom of the missing drawer spaces to create shelves. After my husband added the shelving to the bottom of each space he gave it a coat of primer and paint. I found some new glass drawer pulls and some baskets at Michaels that fit perfectly in the bottom spaces.

Since that initial makeover around 4 years ago, we’ve added a couple more girls to our family! The dresser has gotten a lot of use, and had some discoloration and some visible wear. It definitely needed a fresh coat of paint! I’ve come to embrace all the pink that comes with having girls – and I really wanted to add some pink to our newest baby girl’s nursery. Her room is decorated with mostly neutrals – including a cream paint color, white board and batten, and some white furniture. I decided that a pink dresser would add the perfect feminine touch to the room!

I started this dresser makeover by removing the drawer pulls and giving the dresser a light cleaning with a towel and water. Next I gave my paint a good stir with my stir stick to make sure it was mixed thoroughly. Because this paint is clay-based with a chalky finish, I didn’t need to prime the dresser or do any additional prep work.

Then I used my oval paint brush to give it the first coat of paint. This was my first time using this new paint brush, and I am so impressed! It was so easy to get great coverage with the paint and it hardly showed any brush strokes after the paint dried. I can tell that this will be my go-to brush in the future!

Next I added a second coat of paint because there were a few areas that needed more coverage. After the second coat it had the perfect coverage! It dried so quickly so I didn’t have to wait long to move on to my next step.

For my final step I applied one coat of the clear coat. I used the same oval paint brush to apply it, and it worked beautifully. The finish is perfect and I love that it is so safe to use. It is VOC free and contains no harsh chemical additives! This is especially important to me right now because I am pregnant.

After I replaced the drawer pulls and placed my baskets in, it was time to get it ready for baby girl! I filled the drawers and baskets with some adorable tiny diapers (does anyone else just love the teeny tiny newborn diapers?!), her newborn sized clothing, and baby blankets. This dresser is the perfect size and height to use as a changing table as well, so it will be getting a lot of use in the coming months!

I love how easy it was to change the look and feel of our dresser with just paint and clear coat. It only took me a few hours to complete – and it changes the look and feel of her nursery so much. I can’t wait to finally meet our baby girl and have her enjoy her nursery!
